Michael J. Fox Makes Surprising Appearance at the BAFTAs
Back to the Future star Michael J. Fox surprised the audience at the BAFTA Awards in London over the weekend. Fox was introduced by the host, Doctor Who star David Tennant, who called him a film star of the 1980s as well as a “true legend of cinema.” Celebrities in the audience were shocked to see Fox appear on the stage to present the Best Film Award, as he has not been seen out much in recent years due to his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis.
Fox appeared on stage in a wheelchair but walked a few steps to the podium to present the nominees including Anatomy of a Fall, Poor Things, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Holdovers, and Oppenheimer, with the award going to Oppenheimer.
Before he revealed that Oppenheimer won Best Film, Fox shared, “All five of them have something in common: They are the best of what we do. No matter who you are or where you’re from, films can bring us together. There’s a reason why they say movies are magic, because movies can change your day, they can change your outlook, sometimes it can even change your life.” His short speech brought many fans to tears, as was evident on social media.
Days before the appearance, Fox was seen on social media celebrating his family. On Valentine’s Day, he shared a sweet photo of himself with his wife Tracy Pollan. They have been together since the late ’80s and tied the knot in 1988 after meeting on the set of Family Ties. The next day, Fox paid tribute to their twins Aquinnah and Schuyler, on their birthday.

He shared several photos of the girls and wrote, “Double the love. Happy birthday. You’re crushing it. I love you, Doods ❤️.” Despite dealing with the acceleration of Parkinson’s, Fox seems to be doing well and feeling blessed.
