‘Pretty in Pink’ Cast: Where Are the Brat Pack Stars in 2024?
Pretty in Pink is considered one of the most iconic ’80s teen movies of all time. With one of its stars, Andrew McCarthy, working on a documentary about the 1980s stars called the Brat Pack, it led us to wonder what the stars of Pretty in Pink are doing now. The film, written by John Hughes, follows Andie Walsh (Molly Ringwald) as an outcast at her Chicago high school and how she navigates her boss, bully, best friend, and crush.
Hughes was inspired by Ringwald to write the film after working with her in Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club. Ringwald once shared that Andie’s room and her clothes were modeled after her real-life room and clothing. Sadly, Hughes passed away in 2009 and Harry Dean Stanton, who played Andie’s father Jack Walsh, died in 2017. However, many of the cast members are still alive and working in Hollywood so let’s find out what they’re up to!
Molly Ringwald (Andie Walsh)
56
While Ringwald is still best known for her ’80s classics, she continued to have a successful acting career in the ’90s and beyond. One of her most famous roles was playing the mom in The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Then, she was cast in Riverdale. She reunited with Pretty in Pink co-star Jon Cryer in 2018 on the musical reality competition series Drop the Mic. Ringwald can also sing and released her jazz album in 2013. She was recently seen modeling in the Batsheva fashion show during New York Fashion Week and has been starring in the popular series Feud: Capote vs. The Swans as Joanne Carson, Johnny Carson‘s ex-wife. She is married to author Panio Gianopoulos and has three children.
Jon Cryer (Phil “Duckie” Dale)
58
Cryer is perhaps best known for starring opposite Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men after Pretty in Pink. He made his sitcom return this year in Extended Family. He also played Lex Luthor on Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, and Batwoman in recent years after playing Luthor’s nephew, Lenny in the 1987 film Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Cryer opened up about his life in the memoir “So That Happened” in 2015. He is married to entertainment reporter Lisa Joyner and has two kids.
Andrew McCarthy (Blane McDonough)
61
Andie and Blane end up together in the end, but it wasn’t always meant to be that way. In the original draft, Andie ended up with Duckie but test audiences hated that ending so much that Hughes changed it. McCarthy starred in plenty of other ’80s films including Weekend at Bernie’s and Less Than Zero. He became a director and directed popular shows such as Gossip Girl and Orange Is the New Black. He is also a published writer and wrote several memoirs, a young adult novel, and more recently, an autobiography about his time as a Brat Pack member, which is now being turned into a documentary. McCarthy has been married to director Dolores Rice since 2011 and he has three children. His travels with his oldest son Sam from his first marriage were chronicled in his memoir.
James Spader (Steff McKee)
64
Spader played the bully in Pretty in Pink, an arrogant kid that you love to hate. Since then, he has found a lot of success on television in shows such as The Practice, The Blacklist, Boston Legal, and The Office. He returned to his villainous portrayals as the voice of Ultron in Avengers: The Age of Ultron. Spader is currently dating his former Alien Hunter co-star, Leslie Stefanson, and has three children.
Annie Potts (Iona)
71
Potts played Andie’s boss and mentor with all of the fabulous ’80s clothing. She went on to star in Designing Women and appeared in the Ghostbusters franchise, including the new 2024 film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire as Janine Melnitz. Potts was also the voice of Little Bo Peep in the Toy Story films and more recently plays Connie “Meemaw” Tucker in Young Sheldon. She has been married to her fourth husband, James Hayman since 1990 and has three children.
