Eugene Levy Gets Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame & Talks ‘The Reluctant Traveler’
In honor of the second season premiere of Apple TV+ docuseries The Reluctant Traveler (as well as a long career’s worth of hit shows and films), American Pie and Schitt’s Creek alum Eugene Levy received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday.
The four-time Emmy-winning actor was joined by longtime collaborator Catherine O’Hara and his daughter Sarah, who spoke during the ceremony. Onscreen son from the American Pie film series Jason Biggs attended as well.
Taking a break from scripted dramas, Levy has lately been globetrotting on camera so everyone can enjoy travel just as much as he does. Well, hopefully more so. Despite a second season, Levy is only slightly less reluctant to travel “by a degree or two.”
“I don’t think I would ever travel for fun,” Levy says, of his continuing reluctance. “I just truly, deep down … it’s the arc of travel that I’m still not totally encompassing. I just really don’t like the airport experience.”
However, Levy admits he enjoyed at least some moments on his various trips. In Season 2, which took Levy all across Europe, Levy’s favorite destination was visiting the area of Scotland his mother hails from, although he wasn’t a big fan of some of the food.
“The weirdest food was haggis. It’s made with every part of the animal that you really wouldn’t want food prepared with. But the food was incredible in Tuscany. I mean, come on. You can’t go wrong in Italy.”
In the first season, Levy shared his favorite stop was in Finland. “I now know why the Fins have been voted the happiest people in the world for 5 consecutive years,” he told us. “Being vodka lovers might have something to do with it. But driving a dog sled at 35 mph across a frozen lake, ice floating in the Arctic Ocean, sleigh ride through snowy woods and yes, vodka tasting contests with Finnish vodka veterans, were all part of the fun.”
He was also surprised to enjoy himself in South Africa. “Going on safari never really interested me,” he said. “I had a pretty good idea what these animals looked like on TV. Did I need to travel 14 hours to see them running free and attacking each other?? But I not only felt an attachment to the landscape after I got there, the realization of the danger many of these animals are constantly in from poachers and hunters affected me greatly.”
Check out Season 2 on Apple TV+ for more reluctant fun with Eugene Levy.
