Director of Original ‘The Crow’ Slams Remake
The Crow is getting a remake 30 years after the controversial original film was released in 1994. Many people are against the remake, including the original film’s director Alex Proyas. In the 1994 version, the star of the film, Brandon Lee, died after experiencing an on-set accident. The film was eventually released as a tribute to Lee.
Proyas expressed his distaste with a remake and said, “THE CROW is not just a movie. Brandon Lee died making it, and it was finished as a testament to his lost brilliance and tragic loss. It is his legacy. That’s how it should remain. I really don’t get any joy from seeing negativity about any fellow [filmmakers’] work. And I’m certain the cast and crew really had all good intentions, as we all do on any film. So it pains me to say any more on this topic, but I think the [fans’] response speaks volumes.”
Lee was 28 years old when he starred in the film and was killed accidentally by a prop gun while filming. He was the only son of martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. The film was completed with the help of digital face replacement and his stunt double Chad Stahelski.
The new film’s director, Rupert Sanders, spoke out about the mixed feelings fans are having. He said, “Obviously, it was a terrible tragedy, and it’s definitely something that we’ve always had in mind through the making of the film. Brandon was an original voice and I think he will always be synonymous with The Crow. I hope he’s proud of what we’ve done and how we’ve brought the story back again. His soul is very much alive in this film.”
The new movie stars Bill Skarsgård as Eric Draven, a musician who becomes a superhero who must avenge the murders of his fiancée and himself. It is set to be released on June 7, 2024, and you can watch the trailer below. Let us know your thoughts, should the movie have been remade or left alone due to its tragedy?
