Frank Sinatra’s Daughter Responds to Biopic About Her Father From Martin Scorsese
Martin Scorsese has been talking about a Frank Sinatra biopic for years but it seems it is finally happening. Leonardo DiCaprio is set to play Ol’ Blue Eyes in the film, with reports that Jennifer Lawrence may be cast as Ava Gardner. Gardner and Sinatra were married between 1951 and 1957. As of now, Scorsese has reportedly not yet secured the rights to Sinatra’s music and image rights from his daughter Tina.
Despite this, TMZ reported that Tina seemed to be in good spirits about the biopic. She sounded positive about the project and told TMZ, “Marty and I have been dance partners for a long time and not once has he stepped on my toes! Always here for Marty.” However, she would not give a definite answer about giving Scorsese the rights.
Back in 2009, it was announced that Scorsese was working on a Frank Sinatra biopic with DiCaprio as the lead. In 2010, Scorsese revealed that he wanted to cast Al Pacino and Robert De Niro as Sinatra and Dean Martin as the biopic would showcase Sinatra in different time periods of his life. He said at the time, “We can’t go through the greatest hits of Sinatra’s life. We tried this already. Just can’t do it. So the other way to go is to have three or four different Sinatras. Younger. Older. Middle-aged. Very old. You cut back and forth in time – and you do it through the music.”
The project fizzled out after Tina apparently did not want to showcase her father’s connections with organized crime. She wanted the biopic to focus on his music and his softer side. In 2017, Scorsese said he gave up on the project but something has certainly changed if he decided to run with it again.
We will keep you updated on any more news about the biopic.
