Carol Burnett & Dick Van Dyke Reunite For Special Honor (PHOTOS)
91-year-old Carol Burnett was recently honored at the famous TCL Chinese Theatre. She got her hands and feet plastered in the area, where only under 200 other stars have received the prestigious honor. To celebrate, many of her celebrity friends were there to congratulate her, including 98-year-old Dick Van Dyke.
Burnett and Van Dyke starred in The Carol Burnett Show from 1967 to 1978 and have remained friends over the years. As they posed for photos, you could just see the gleam in Van Dyke’s eye that showed how proud he was of his longtime pal. Other stars including Burnett’s current Palm Royale costars Laura Dern, Allison Janney and Bob Odenkirk showed their support as well, along with SNL alums Bill Hader and Maya Rudolph plus designer Bob Mackie, director Vince Gilligan and many more..
Talk show host Jimmy Kimmel spoke during the ceremony and later said, “Thank you Carol Burnett for giving me the honor of honoring you at your exceptionally well-deserved and long overdue handprint & footprint ceremony this morning in Hollywood.”
Just last year, Burnett was honored for her 90th birthday and her contributions to the entertainment industry. She continues to work as is evident in her recent role in the Apple TV+ show Palm Royale. Though she has said she felt like a “late bloomer,” bursting onto the scene in her 20s, she proved to be a powerhouse actress and comedian.
She shared, “I was pretty much of a quiet student all through grammar school, junior high and Hollywood High. I would kid around with my friends, the neighborhood kids, stuff like that. But I never really thought about it until I got to UCLA and I was in an acting class. A lot of the kids at the class were doing heavy, dramatic stuff and I thought, I can’t do that. So I picked something light and they laughed. That’s when the bug bit.”
“I made people laugh, made them feel good when they might have been down,” she continued. “In my fan mail, many say it was the only time the family would get together, to watch and laugh. And that sometimes they were lonesome and were cheered up by our show. That’s a good feeling.”
