Fans became concerned when 91-year-old country superstar Willie Nelson had to cancel several appearances due to an unnamed illness. Just hours before the Outlaw Music Festival Tour was set to begin on Friday, June 21, it was announced on social media that he could no longer perform. The post read, “We regret to inform you that Willie Nelson is not feeling well and, per doctor’s orders, has been advised to rest for the next four days. He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week.”

Luckily, Nelson wasn’t the only person on the concert lineup. His son Lukas Nelson and the Family Band, Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Kraus and Celisse performed as planned and Lukas added a special set to perform some of Nelson’s classic songs.

During the show, his son stepped in and performed songs such as “Always on My Mind” and “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,” reportedly bringing fans to tears with his versions.

Although Nelson’s team never shared what type of illness he is recovering from, it sounds like he will be okay. Several fans wrote panicked comments on the post, asking for the team to say that he is okay upfront instead of beginning with the dreaded, “We regret to inform you.”

Nelson was expected to return for a June 26 show in Virginia Beach. While Nelson may be in his 90s, he has no plans of slowing down. Whenever he is asked about retiring from tours, he jokes that he “retires after every tour.” He added that continuing to work has been good for him and his health and he loves to travel on the bus. Sadly he still wasn’t feeling up to par and cancelled.

The show picks up again on June 28 in Syracuse, NY but it remains to be seen if Willie will be performing. Stay tuned for updates!
