Willie Nelson Returning for July 4th Show After Unspecified Illness
91-year-old Willie Nelson will be back on the stage very soon. He had to cancel his appearances at the first seven dates of his Outlaw Music Festival due to an unspecified illness. Now, his team has confirmed that he will be performing on July 4 at Camden, N.J. He most recently missed the show yesterday, on July 2.
Yesterday, an Instagram post on his page read, “Willie Nelson is looking forward to seeing everyone in Camden on July 4. He will not be performing in Mansfield today. Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, and Celisse will perform as scheduled. In addition, Lukas Nelson and Family, along with some special guests, will once again play his own set that will include Willie’s classics and other songs.”
His son, Lukas has been taking over for his father and playing some of Nelson’s top songs including “Funny How Time Slips Away” and “On the Road Again” in his absence. While Nelson has not yet revealed what illness he has been suffering from, he was under doctor’s orders to rest and skip those shows. Fans are anxiously waiting to see how Nelson looks and sounds during the Fourth of July show.
This year’s show will be the first time in 14 years that his annual Fourth of July show has been held outside of Texas. The concert series is heading out around the country until September. Not only has Nelson been trying to get out on tour but he also released his 75th studio album called The Border back in May. What’s your favorite song on his new album?
Hoping Nelson is able to perform tomorrow and is feeling much better! Happy Fourth of July everyone!
