Kevin Bacon Wore a Disguise to Become a “Regular Person” & Hated It
Fame can be one divisive topic. Some people crave fame but once they get a taste, they can’t handle all of the attention and scrutiny. Others love the perks that come with being famous and it seems that Kevin Bacon is one of those people. The 65-year-old star (he will be 66 on July 8, 2024!) has been in the public eye since he was a young man, becoming famous for his role in Footloose when he was in his early 20s.
Bacon recently revealed that he decided to become a “regular person” for a day to see what it was like. He said, “I’m not complaining, but I have a face that’s pretty recognizable. Putting my hat and glasses on is only going to work to a certain extent.” He added, “I went to a special effects makeup artist, had consultations, and asked him to make me a prosthetic disguise.”

Bacon asked for a disguise that resembled his character in the film MaXXXine and went to the outdoor mall The Grove in Los Angeles to see if the disguise truly worked. He said that it did but the novelty of walking around unnoticed wore off pretty quickly.
Remind He admitted, “People were kind of pushing past me, not being nice. Nobody said, ‘I love you.’ I had to wait in line to, I don’t know, buy a coffee or whatever. I was like, ‘This sucks. I want to go back to being famous.'”

Bacon has been uber-famous for around 40 years so it certainly was a big change for him. Although he prefers to be recognized now, it wasn’t always easy. When he first found fame in Footloose, he said that it was quite a shock and took some time getting used to being noticed all the time, even calling it “disorientating.” There is now a website called The Oracle of Bacon which houses the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, linking just about any other famous star to Bacon in six movies/shows or less.
