There are just some of those catchy, nostalgic songs that make you smile and think of the lazy days of summer. One of those songs is “It’s a Sunshine Day” featured on the iconic show The Brady Bunch. Now, ’90s group Smash Mouth is teaming up with Brady Bunch star Barry Williams (the original Greg Brady) to release a cover of the song. It is set to release on July 12, 2024.

Original Smash Mouth member Paul DeLisle shared about their decision to record the tune, “From the shared verses to Bobby Brady’s psychedelic bridge, this is THEE best Brady Bunch song in the second-best Brady Bunch episode ever (the best being when Greg surfs in Hawaii). In our version, when Barry Williams comes in on the second verse….my spirit soars, and I just want to JUMP UP AND SHOUT!! I love it so much. Barry Williams RULES and I am the #1 Brady fan in the world. What a thrill and huge honor.”

Williams added, “I have been a fan of Smash Mouth since before they had hits. Since the beginning they have been in my song rotation. Getting to know the guys has made it just that much better. Talent and style keep them timeless. I am very happy to be on that ride. When Paul asked me to join in on this track, I jumped on it. With thanks to the band, at last at last… SUNSHINE DAY is cool!”

The song was originally recorded in 1972. “It’s a Sunshine Day” was featured on season 4, episode 16 of The Brady Bunch called “Amateur Nite.” The song was also featured on the third studio album by the group and was later re-released as a CD in 1996.

If you’re unfamiliar with Smash Mouth, they are a group that grew in popularity in the 1990s with the hit song “All-Star.” They are now headed out on a U.S. tour, hitting cities around the country, so perhaps they will play the new version of “It’s a Sunshine Day.” Let us know if you’re excited to hear the new version!
