This weekend, celebrity fitness icon Richard Simmons passed away at the age of 76, just one day after his birthday. Many fans, including celebrities, are paying tribute to the star, who was always seemingly full of energy and fitness inspiration. He stayed out of the spotlight in recent years due to health issues but earlier this year, spoke to the public online after actor Pauly Shore expressed interest in making a biopic about Simmons.

Simmons was not interested in being a part of the biopic and the two had somewhat of a feud going on with public statements. Now, Shore has expressed his sadness about hearing of the passing of Simmons and shared a heartfelt statement.

He said, “I just got word like everyone else that the beautiful Richard Simmons has passed. I hope you’re at peace and twinkling up in the heavens. Please give my mother Mitzi and my father Sammy a big hug and a kiss for me. You’re one of a kind, Richard. An amazing life. An amazing story. They broke the dolphin shorts when they made you. Rest in peace, my friend. Rest in peace.”

While Simmons said he did not give Shore permission for his biopic, he said that he was in talks with a studio about another film about his life. No word yet on whether that will ever come to fruition after his death. Shore previously starred in a short film called The Court Jester, where he played Simmons and got the bug to play him in a feature-length film. Just days before his death, Simmons was perhaps preparing for a biopic by sharing nostalgic stories from his life on social media, some being a bit bizarre.

Feel free to share your favorite memories of Simmons in the comments.
