Get Your Hands On One of Former Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted’s Instruments
Grammy-award-winning musician Jason Newsted, best known for playing with Metallica, is gearing up to sell over 60 items from his personal guitar and bass collection. Newsted played bass with a variety of bands including Voivod, Echobrain, Flotsam and Jetsam as well as his own band Newsted, but also collected many vintage instruments over the years that he is now selling.
The Official Jason Newsted Reverb Shop, in partnership with the company Reverb, which is an online marketplace for musical equipment, will be open on July 24, 2024, and will allow fans to purchase items from his collection. Some of the items include his 1992 Alembic Europa Custom 10-string bass that was played during his Metallica years when the band toured for their 1991 Black Album, one of his first Alembic basses, a rare Mosrite 5-string Electric Mandolin Guitar and several guitars hand-painted by Newsted.
“I’m teaming up with Reverb to sell some pieces from my collection for the very first time. The last 30 or 40 years as I’ve traveled around playing music for people, I’ve gathered some cool shit,” Newsted said in a statement.
“I traveled the world to collect these pieces and many of these pieces have traveled the world with me. I’d like to get them into the hands of other players because I can only play so many at once, and wonderful guitars such as these should not live in cases forever…they deserve to be enjoyed!”
Newsted also spoke about some of the specific items, including the highly-anticipated sale of the Alembic Europa 10-string bass. “This thing is an absolute beast,” Newsted added of the 10-string. “The weight alone you’ll have to be a straight badass just to carry it let alone play it. I was never able to give it enough time. I was able to take it out on tour – the Black Album tour, that kind of thing – but I want to see what someone can do with it. It’s a really special piece of metal history.”
The shop doesn’t open until the 24th, so no word yet on how much these items may sell for but we’re guessing you will need a lot of cash to grab one for yourself. Keep in mind they are being sold at fixed prices and this is not an auction situation. Will you try to purchase something from the sale?
