In 1964, Dean Martin did the seemingly impossible. He knocked the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night” from its No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, replacing it with his song “Everybody Loves Somebody.” It wasn’t just that Martin dethroned the Beatles but it was a big comeback for him as it was the first time in about a decade that one of his songs hit the top of the charts.

Martin was proud of his success and used it to joke around with his son and his friends. He reportedly told his son, Dean Paul Martin, “I’m gonna knock your pallies off the charts,” while he told Elvis Presley, “If you can’t handle the Beatles, I’ll do it for you, pally.”

“Everybody Loves Somebody” continued to do well and became the theme song for The Dean Martin Show, Martin’s iconic variety show which produced over 250 episodes. In 1999, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and was even used for Martin’s grave marker (it reads “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime”) so the song remains very special to his fans and his family. To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the hit song, it is getting a modern makeover for new audiences. Martin’s music has seen a resurgence in recent years due to social media apps like TikTok.

Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, in association with Iconic Artists Group, will release a new ATMOS mix (it creates a more immersive experience while listening) of the song on August 9, 2024. It was produced by Grammy-award-winning engineer and producer Dave Way. Additionally, the song will be certified platinum on August 5.
