‘Lone Ranger’ Character Helps ‘Jeopardy!’ Player Win
Actor and writer Davey Morrison won a recent Jeopardy! match against reigning champ Neilesh Vinjamuri and engineer Wendy Zaballos, with a little help from TV Western knowledge. Morrison went on to find a second Daily Double, which got him in the lead. Then, Vinjamuri swooped in and went back to first place but ultimately Morrison won the episode.
He was the only person to know the answer to the question: “This name of a National Forest means ‘fool’ and may be one Apache group’s name for another group; it’s also a problematic TV character.” Lone Ranger fans know that the answer was “What is: Tonto?” While Morrison answered the question correctly, all three contestants failed to identify a photo of Cole Hauser as Rip from Yellowstone, one of the most popular, more recent Western dramas.
During the episode, Morrison also had a very crazy fact to share with host Ken Jennings and the audience. He admitted that that he once escaped from quicksand! Morrison explained, “I was location scouting for a film project and took a step into some mud and took another step and was up to my waist in thick goopy bog from which I could not emerge.” He added about his escape, “So I deduced what you’re supposed to do which is … I can’t, I couldn’t reach dry land. And you can’t push your way through, no one was around to call out for help. And so I tried leaning back and lifting my legs to see if my weight were more evenly distributed if I could scoot to land, and it worked, and I did.”

Morrison won for a second night, giving him a two-day streak. Season 40 of Jeopardy! ends soon and Season 41 will start on Sept. 9, 2024. In the meantime, there will be reruns. What did you think of the episode? Did you get that question right?
