Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony hope to keep Van Halen‘s legacy alive. The duo is currently out on tour with Joe Satriani, Jason Bonham and Australian musician Rai Thistlethwayte, and is making sure to include some Van Halen classics during their nostalgic set.

Hagar recently shared, “I can’t tell you how perfect this lineup is, how much fun we’re havin’ and how it’s live. Mike and I, we got this saying now. We say, ‘We keepin’ it live and alive,’ ya know?” The 21-song set includes “Good Enough,” “Ain’t Talkin’ Bout Love,” “Panama” and more. Hagar also performs many of his solo hits including “I Can’t Drive 55.”

Satriani added about the shows, “Oh, it’s a thrill. It is so difficult to explain the complexity of emotions that I have playing this role in the band. First of all, they’re just fun shows. They’re just completely rock ‘n’ roll fun shows with an amazing setlist to play with every night. I mean, that’s obvious, and the fans are right there with us celebrating all this great music with us. But just me being with my buddies, celebrating Sam’s legacy and Mike’s legacy — we have a lot of years together, so there’s this great feeling of friendship, and I’m just happy to be there to help them celebrate. And I’m a huge Eddie Van Halen fan, as you know, and so I approach this gig with this feeling of a huge responsibility to do it right, to be respectful, but to keep the spirit that Eddie invented alive when I play these songs.”

Hagar recently shared about the tour that he hoped Alex Van Halen would join them or at least attend one of the shows. He never responded to their messages and then made the announcement that he was selling all of his musical equipment and memorabilia, confirming that he would not be performing live again. His brother Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020.
