Grant Show appeared as the very first guest on the new Melrose Place rewatch podcast called Still the Place, created by Daphne Zuniga, Laura Leighton and Courtney Thorne-Smith. Show is mainly known for his character Jake Hanson on Melrose Place, but he also appeared as Jake on Beverly Hills, 90210 as a friend of Dylan (the late Luke Perry). His storyline is one that would likely not be approved of today.

Show’s character had a fling with Kelly (Jennie Garth), but looking back, Show remembers that Kelly was in high school while Jake was in his 20s. He said on the podcast, “What would now be illegal and like, ‘Me too.’ I think we only kissed, but still, you know, not good. Not good.” Despite the fact that they were both adults while filming, it still doesn’t send a great message to teens watching.

Show admitted that he didn’t think much about the age gap while filming, but when he recently rewatched the episode, he felt odd about it. Garth responded about the situation on a different podcast. “I remember just being like, ‘OK, this is what I’ve been told to do.’ Like, there wasn’t a point where I had much say in anything, and so I was just doing what Darren and Aaron wanted done. And I didn’t think anything of it. Like, I literally never thought, ‘Oh, he’s this age or she’s this age.’” She continued, “It’s creepy now that we look back at it, yeah.”

During the podcast episode with Show, he also revealed that he once got into a fight with Steve McQueen‘s son while filming Melrose Place promos. He shared that during the shooting of the credits at a Johnny Rocket’s restaurant, a guy pulled up on his motorcycle and started revving his engine, causing the girls to laugh. Show told the guy that the girls were laughing at him, not with him, and this caused him to jump off his bike and get in his face.

However, Show knew that he was working and had the support of the cast. So he told the man that and he decided to sit down at the restaurant and wait for Show to be done working so he could fight him! Then Show found out that it was Steve McQueen’s son Chad and decided that a fight wasn’t worth it, calling McQueen one of his biggest heroes ever. Years later, Show said that they ran into each other again and hugged it out. Listen to the entire episode here!
