There is some drama going on between Journey bandmates Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon, and it has gotten in the way of their 50th anniversary tour. Journey has canceled 11 tour dates in the U.K. and Ireland, and ticket holders reportedly already received emails that the dates were canceled and that they would receive refunds shortly. They are continuing on their North American shows with Def Leppard, as those shows will conclude next month.

The cancellation seems to have stemmed from a legal issue between Cain and Schon. Cain is accusing Schon of maxing out their band American Express account with a $1 million limit, spending “up to $10,000 per night.” He claims that their financial troubles are now so dire that the crew and production company are not able to be paid for their work on tour.

Part of the lawsuit reads that these situations have begun “impacting the band’s reputation throughout the music industry. The band’s actual onstage performance is, at the moment, one of the only aspects of the business that has not suffered.”

To remedy the spending problems, Cain is proposing a restructuring of their business Freedom 2020 Inc., operated by Cain and Schon. Cain hopes for a third board member to be inducted to break tie votes and help with their issues. Reportedly, Schon has not yet responded, so stay tuned for updates on this ongoing battle.

This isn’t the first lawsuit between the two. Back in 2020, Journey had legal battles that appeared to be resolved by adding Cain and Schon’s wives to a new organizational structure. Then in 2022, there was a similar lawsuit regarding overspending. What do you think about this lawsuit and the tour being cut short?
