Why Jamie Lee Curtis Requests Name Tags on Set
Jamie Lee Curtis has proven to be not only an exceptional actor but also an exceptional person. There have been many stories about her kindness on and off the set, and this one is just a bonus. She recently opened up about having crew wear name tags while on the set of any movie she is filming.
She explained, “There’s something really uneven about our position on a set, on a movie, in this arena. You guys know our names, we don’t know yours. There’s something inequitable to me about that.”
She continued, “On a movie set, if we were all working together, we would all be wearing name tags so that tomorrow when we came in, I would be able to then say ‘Good morning, [Sabine]’ without [a thought] because I’ve learned her name.” Curtis added that she wanted things to be more equal in a field of work that is very fast-paced and where people tend to put famous people on a pedestal.
During the filming of Halloween Kills, one of the films in the Halloween franchise where Curtis played Laurie Strode, she said she got emotional during one of the final scenes when she realized all of the crew members were wearing a name tag that read “We are Laurie Strode” in solidarity of the character and film. She concluded, “I just want it to be equitable because it’s an important thing. It’s art — there isn’t hierarchy in art. It’s supposed to be a group of people.”
