Zelda Williams recently cleared up the rumors that her late father, Robin Williams, owned a pet monkey. The 10th anniversary of Williams’ death recently passed and many people were sharing their condolences and memories on social media. Unfortunately, among the heartfelt posts are some that are fake.

Zelda reshared a post that had gone viral, with a photo of her dad with a monkey on his shoulder. The post read, “One of the last photos of a gem of a man, with his pet monkey, taken a few days before he committed suicide by hanging at the age of 63.”

She clapped back and wrote, “It’s been brought to my attention some probably AI written BS like this is going viral. Dad didn’t own a pet monkey, NO ONE should, and if you’re ever tempted to, support your local exotic animal rescues instead. That is his Night at the Museum costar, who now lives at one.”

In another post she wrote, “And since more completely false or badly researched posts are likely to go viral on Dad’s death anniversary, maybe just assume they’re all BS (they usually are). Ignore the creepy robots trying to farm your clicks & do something nice for yourself instead. I sure as hell will ♥️”

Zelda is now 35 years old and working in Hollywood. She also acts as a mental health advocate in memory of her father. This year, she made her feature-length directorial debut with the film Lisa Frankenstein. While she has acted in the past and now focuses on directing, Zelda admitted that she didn’t initially plan to go into acting because her father was so good at it. While Zelda shared some posts this year on the anniversary of his death, she generally steers clear of social media around this time each year. Can you believe it has been a decade since he’s been gone?
