Where Is the Hoff & the Cast of ‘Baywatch’ Now?

Whether you watched it or not, Baywatch is engrained in ’90s culture. Remember the scene in Friends when Joey and Chandler run to their chairs to turn on Baywatch and drool at the slow-motion running of lifeguards in hot red bathing suits? I’d bet a lot of people in the ’90s can relate! The show ran from 1989 to 1999 and spawned several sequels, but nothing can compare to the original series following California lifeguards as they navigate normal and not-so-normal beach situations (remember the ghost haunting the beach?).

This month, Hulu is offering a look behind the scenes with the four-part docuseries titled After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, featuring interviews with the original cast members. It promises “a nostalgic and insightful exploration of the cultural phenomenon that defined an era.” Before that airs on Aug. 28, 2024, let’s find out what some of the cast is up to now!

David Hasselhoff (Mitch Buchannon)

Hasselhoff is the longest-running cast member of the series and participated in several spinoffs including the ill-received Baywatch Nights. He went on to dabble in every type of entertainment from Broadway to reality television to pop music, especially in Germany. His song “Looking for Freedom” became an anthem for German reunification. He has released 15 studio albums, had his own reality show called The Hasselhoffs and made cameos in films such as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He recently appeared as himself in the sitcoms Young Sheldon and The Goldbergs. Hasselhoff has been married to Hayley Roberts since 2018. We can’t forget the drunken hamburger video from 2007, but the Hoff credits that embarrassing video for helping him get sober.

Pamela Anderson (C.J. Parker)

Baywatch was a big break for Anderson, who went on to be in the spotlight for the show and her tumultuous marriage to Tommy Lee. She went on to appear in parody movies such as Scary Movie 3 and Borat, plus made her Broadway debut in 2022 as Roxie Hart in Chicago. A year later she released her memoir titled Love, Pamela, which sparked a Netflix documentary. She has been married five times but is now single and has two adult sons with her ex Lee. Of course, she is also known for her Playboy Playmate status and the ’90s show Home Improvement.

Jeremy Jackson (Hobie Buchannon)

Leonardo DiCaprio was reportedly considered and rejected by Hasselhoff for the role of Hobie after Brandon Call left the show. Jackson got it instead and became close with Hasselhoff after playing his TV son. In the ’90s, Jackson opened for Hasselhoff on his European tour. Unfortunately, things went south for a while as he was arrested and jailed for possession of crystal meth and did several rounds of rehab, eventually appearing on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab. He was also kicked off Celebrity Big Brother and had stabbing incidents. It seems that he has cleaned up his act now, and his Instagram bio claims that he is a sober coach, personal trainer and meditation healer.

Alexandra Paul (Lt. Stephanie Holden)

Paul was interviewed for the part because one of the producers swam at the same pool that she did and knew she was a strong swimmer. After Baywatch, she appeared in shows such as Melrose Place and Mad Men and has since competed in global swimming races and ran the 2020 Boston Marathon. She has dedicated much of her life to animal and environmental activism and is vegan. Since 2019, she has hosted a plant-based eating podcast called Switch4Good. Paul has been married to Ian Murray since 2000.

Carmen Electra (Lani McKenzie)

Electra became known as a sex symbol not only for her role in Baywatch but also for her Playboy photoshoots. Much like Anderson, she appeared in parody films such as Scary Movie. She had her own MTV series following her short-lived marriage to guitarist Dave Navarro and continues to appear on scripted shows and reality television shows. Since 2022, she has created one of the most successful OnlyFans accounts on the site. If you’re interested in learning more about what she’s been up to, check out our recent story on Electra.

Yasmine Bleeth (Caroline Holden)

Bleeth had been acting since she was just 10 months old and was known for the soaps Ryan’s Hope and One Life to Live. She went on to star in Nash Bridges and Titans. She also had personal troubles due to drugs in the 2000s, which resulted in arrests and time in rehab. Now she seems to be doing better and has been married to Paul Cerrito since 2002. She most recently appeared in Whack the Don and has a few projects in development.

Michael Newman (Michael “Newmie” Newman)

Newman was the only actor who was once a lifeguard in real life. He was originally hired as a technical consultant but soon became a star in the series. The acting bug didn’t stick, and after, he worked for many years in real estate. He is now retired and lives a low-profile life in California with his wife, Sarah. They have two children. However, he recently opened up about his struggles with Parkinson’s disease. See newer photos of Newman there.

She now hosts a podcast called Perfectly Twisted and has been open about her recent breast cancer diagnosis.

Traci Bingham (Jordan Tate)

Bingham has been celebrated as the first Black female main cast member on Baywatch. She went on to appear in The Jamie Foxx Show, Reno 911!, Celebrity Big Brother, Surreal Life: Fame Games and more. One of her more recent appearances was in Battle of the Network Stars.

David Chokachi (Cody Madison)

Chokachi replaced David Charvet in 1995 and has stayed busy since he left the show in 1999. He’s appeared in many made-for-TV movies including one called Murder.com with his costar Alexandra Paul. He appeared in the film Soul Surfer and more recently Drowning in Secrets.

Erika Eleniak (Shauni McClain)

Brooke Burns (Jessie Owens)

Burns was just 19 years old when she was cast in Baywatch and had been working as a model. After the show ended, she appeared in the Melrose Place reboot, Just Shoot Me! and Shallow Hal. She recently appeared in the Gourmet Detective made-for-TV movie franchise and is known for hosting game shows such as Master Minds and The Chase.
