Willie Nelson may be 91 years old but he is still making new music and touring around the country. He admitted that he loves playing music so much that he will never quit even after canceling several shows this year due to an unnamed illness. Now, the country music icon announced a new album called Last Leaf on the Tree coming Nov. 1, 2024. The latest release will be his 76th solo studio album and his 153rd in total.

The new record is truly a family affair as it is the first time his son Micah produced one of his dad’s albums. They have performed together in the past, along with Nelson’s son Lukas. Lukas sounds eerily similar to his famous father and filled in for him while he was sick on tour. In honor of the upcoming album release, Nelson dropped the first new song this week called “Last Leaf,” a cover of Tom Waits song from 2011.

The album will also contain Waits’ song “House Where Nobody Lives” and Sydney Lyndella Ward, aka Sunny War’s “If It Wasn’t Broken.” Ward said that his cover “is the sweetest and greatest thing that’s ever happened to [her] as writer and musician. I used to play that song on the Venice Beach boardwalk and would have never imagined back then that Willie Nelson would ever even hear it.” Other covers include songs from Neil Young, Nina Simone, Beck, the Flaming Lips and more. The album isn’t all covers though, Nelson wrote several songs including “The Ghost” and “Color of Sound.”

Last Leaf on the Tree will be available on CD, LP vinyl, a limited-edition lithograph and, of course, digitally. All are available for pre-order now, and you can listen to the new single below after reading the tracklist:
