The Tattered Dress, which opened in theaters on August 20, 1957, is a film noir directed by Jack Arnold that follows a lawyer named James Blane (Jeff Chandler) who is a notoriously unfaithful husband to his wife, played by Jeanne Crain. Summoned to a small town in Nevada, Blane must defend a wealthy socialite (Phillip Reed) on trial for the murder of a bartender who may have assaulted his wife (Elaine Stewart). Blane’s defense angers the murder victim’s friend, who happens to also be the local sheriff, and soon Blane himself is framed for a crime he didn’t commit.
