On Labor Day 2024, classic television network Antenna TV is airing what it is calling its “Labor Day at the Good Ol’ 1-2 Barney Miller Marathon.”

Starting early in the morning on Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2), you can enjoy 24 hours of episodes from the classic, Emmy-winning 1975-82 ABC sitcom Barney Miller. Set in the detectives’ squad room of New York City’s fictional 12th Precinct, the series ran for eight seasons and was led by Emmy nominee Hal Linden as the titular police captain, Bernard “Barney” Miller.

The outstanding ensemble cast also included three actors who, along with Linden, appeared during the entire run of the series: Emmy nominee Max Gail as Detective Stan “Wojo” Wojciehowicz, Emmy nominee Ron Glass as Detective Ron Harris and James Gregory as Inspector Frank Luger.

There were also beloved actors and characters who appeared later in the series, or left for various reasons, including Emmy nominee Steve Landesberg as Detective Sergeant Arthur Dietrich; Emmy nominee Abe Vigoda as Detective Phil Fish (a regular in Seasons 1-3 before the character got his own short-lived spinoff, Fish); Jack Soo as Detective Sergeant Nick Yemana (Soo was a regular the first four seasons, but only appeared in a few episodes of Season 5 due to the cancer that eventually took his life on Jan. 11, 1979, at age 61); and Ron Carey as Officer Carl Levitt (Seasons 3-8).

A few possibly forgotten characters will also be seen in earlier episodes of the series that are featured in Antenna TV’s marathon, like Gregory Sierra as Detective Sergeant Chano Amenguale (Seasons 1 and 2), and Barbara Barrie as Liz Miller, Barney’s wife, who was mostly seen in the first two seasons, when we occasionally got a glimpse into Miller’s home life.

Of course, another standout star in the series was its jazzy and very catchy opening and closing music by Jack Elliott and Allyn Ferguson, which remains among the most memorable (and hummable) of instrumental themes in TV history:
