Legendary actor James Earl Jones recently passed away at the age of 93. To honor the EGOT winner, BET and Entertainment Tonight are airing a tribute special. BET News and ET Present James Earl Jones: Life and Legacy will air on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2024, at 8pm ET, and will showcase some of the best moments from his long career.

Not only will the tribute special hone in on some of his best performances and his iconic voice, but it will also share archived footage and never-before-seen interviews with Jones over the decades. In addition, some of his former costars and friends will reflect on his life in new interviews.

While many fans know him as the voice of Mufasa in The Lion King or Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise, he was also a star in almost 200 projects, plus many Broadway shows. Before he died, Jones signed a deal with Lucasfilm allowing archival recordings of his voice to be used in the future to artificially generate the voice of Darth Vader, which was done in the recent miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi, so his voice could truly live on forever.

Not only was Jones an EGOT winner (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony), but he was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame, received the Common Wealth Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Dramatic Arts, received an Honorary Doctor of Arts from Harvard University, was named a Disney Legend, and held many more awards and accomplishments. Broadway’s Cort Theatre was renamed the James Earl Jones Theatre just two years ago as well.

In case you miss the special live, it will stream the next day on BET+. Will you be watching?
