It seems there was always drama between Fleetwood Mac bandmates. Many of them dated on and off and had issues with each other constantly. There were even fights about their hit songs that eventually led to their breakup. Reportedly, Stevie Nicks was angry that she didn’t get to sing on one of Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hit songs.

The song “Everywhere,” from their 14th album, Tango in the Night, was recorded while Nicks was in rehab for a cocaine addiction. She was getting help at the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage, California, and wasn’t around to record much during that album.

According to the book Gold Dust Woman: The Biography of Stevie Nicks, she said while they were finishing up the song in the studio, “It’s not even like I’m on this f***ing record. I can’t hear myself at all.” She added, “Maybe I wasn’t able to get to the studio that much. You know how f***ing sick I was. How is it going to look when the record comes out, and I might have to tell Rolling Stone that I didn’t work on it?”

Nicks’ bandmate and close friend Christine McVie stepped in and asked what specifically she was upset about. When Nicks responded that she wanted to sing the harmonies on the song, McVie said, “I wanted you to sing on it, too. But you weren’t there. In fact, we’ve been working on this record for almost a year, and you were only with us for a couple of days. Now why don’t you just tell us you’re sorry, and we’ll work it out.”

Eventually, Nicks did get to add more vocals to the track, but it sounds like McVie was the voice of reason in the band and one of the reasons that they could never reunite again without her. McVie died on Nov. 30, 2022.
