How to Watch the Original ‘Matlock’
After the success of Perry Mason, the ’80s brought Matlock, starring the beloved Andy Griffith in a new venture away from his wholesome show of the ’60s. The mystery legal drama created by Dean Hargrove aired on NBC from 1986 until 1992, and then on ABC from 1992 to 1995. Now, a reboot starring Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock/Madeline Kingston is airing on CBS.
The ’80s version of Matlock starred Griffith as Ben Matlock, a very skilled attorney who charges $100,000 per case and always uncovers the truth in dramatic courtroom confessions. The series also starred Julie Sommars, Linda Purl, Nancy Stafford, Clarence Gilyard, Kene Holliday, Brynn Thayer and Daniel Roebuck.

The pilot episode premiered on September 22, 2024. The season officially begins on October 17, 2024, on CBS, and streams the next day on Paramount+. The series also stars the late John Ritter‘s son Jason Ritter, Skye P. Marshall, David Del Rio and Leah Lewis.
