Queen of Halloween, Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, played by the actress Cassandra Peterson, recently went viral and not for a reason you may expect during spooky season. She participated in the Knott’s Scary Farm Halloween event at the California theme park Knott’s Berry Farm, one of the many times she has appeared at the yearly event. During a Q&A, a fan asked her about celebrity encounters. Someone yelled “Ariana Grande!” and Peterson shared the story of her meeting with the pop singer.

Peterson said that Grande and her family attended one of her events and brought around 20 people. All of her family and friends requested photos with Peterson, to which she happily obliged and gave autographs. However, Peterson said when she asked Grande for a photo, she declined and said that “she doesn’t really do that.” After sharing the story, the crowd started booing and Peterson added, “I mean, come on. Then she left before my show started! All her relatives stayed, and she took off.”

A day after Peterson posted the story online, Grande responded in the comments. She wrote, “i’m so disheartened to see this. i actually don’t even remember getting the chance to meet you because i had an anxiety attack and to my memory, left before the rest of my family (this was around 7 years ago and at the time i was really not great with being in public crowds or loud places)… but if i’m misremembering this moment, i sincerely apologize for offending you so.”

She continued, “thank you for being so nice to my mom, she told me how lovely you were (she might have different feelings about that now but i’ll talk to her… clearly, we all have our days!)
sending love always. ♡ you’ll always be our queen of Halloween!”

Fans of Grande were quick to point out that the year of this incident was the same year as the Manchester bombing that happened while Grande was performing, so it makes sense that her anxiety would have been extremely high. Some question if the whole thing was a publicity stunt due to Peterson’s appearance at the event, plus Grande plays Galinda, the Good Witch of the North in the highly anticipated Wicked film, coming next month. Of course, fans were also divided based on which celebrity they prefer. What’s your take on the situation?
