Vincent Price’s Daughter Victoria Calls on Horror Icons to Help Hurricane Victims
Vincent Price‘s daughter, Victoria Price, was among the many people impacted by the recent hurricanes in North Carolina. She quickly realized that many insurance companies were denying coverage to those affected by the hurricanes who were claiming damage due to the mud and flood. Appalled at this, Price wanted to help.
So she partnered with the Community Foundation, neighbors and her father’s horror icon friends, including Daniel Roebuck, Svengoolie and John Waters, to create HendoWEen. Named in honor of Henderson County, an area that got hit hard by the hurricane (and Victoria’s home base), HendoWEen is raising money for the impacted area through fun, Halloween-related challenges. You can either donate directly, or check out some of the other ways you can help out below.
Price helped create the Thriller Dance Challenge as a way to honor her father, who famously appears as the narrator in Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller,” and to help raise awareness and funds. Plus, she hopes it can help bring a smile to the faces who have been so heartbroken. She said, “My father’s laugh and rap in ‘Thriller’ have brought people joy since the song was first released in 1983. My hope is that this virtual dance challenge will help our community come together as well as bring more donors to the Mud & Flood Fund.”
The Thriller Dance Challenge is celebrating spooky season through Nov. 24, 2024, as a way to keep the donations coming.
To get started with the Thriller Dance Challenge, donate at least $13 to receive the training video, created by the Flat Rock Playhouse in Henderson County. Once you’ve learned the dance, film yourself and your friends and share the video on social media with the hashtags they provide. The first 50 people to post their dance videos will win passes to live Mad Monster or Monsterpalooza events.
There will also be an online auction to raise money. Fans can register to bid on items including original artwork, experiences and vacation packages, toys, records, and even signed celebrity memorabilia donated by Butch Patrick, Cassandra Petersen aka Elvira, Rob Zombie and many more. The items will range in price.
“Our online events will raise funds for individuals and small businesses affected by mud and flood damage, since this is not covered (under most insurance policies), and folks have lost everything,” Victoria noted.
