George Michael & WHAM!’s Legacy Continues to Shine Brightly
This month marks the 40th anniversary of the release of George Michael’s smash hit song “Careless Whisper.” George Michael Entertainment (GME) and Sony Music have released the Careless Whisper EP to all streaming platforms and on an exclusive Ruby Marble Vinyl.
The new EP features a previously unreleased live recording of the timeless hit performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City during George’s concert in July 2008. The recording was part of his monumental 25 Live Tour, a worldwide sold-out tour.

“Careless Whisper” charted in 25 countries, went 7x Platinum in the US, sold 1.5 million copies in the UK and was on the smash hit Make it Big album that shot WHAM! to international stardom. The song was written by Michael with Andrew Ridgeley.
The British-born singer, George Michael, rose to fame in the 1980s as a member of WHAM! and later embarked on a solo career. He topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart eight times in the US and hit the No.1 spot on the UK singles charts seven times as a solo artist. Billboard has listed him among the “Greatest Hot 100 Artists of All Time,” and Rolling Stone included him in the top “200 Greatest Singers of All Time.” In November 2023, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. On December 25, 2016, Michael died from natural causes.
This isn’t the only news to come out of the WHAM! camp. There will also be a special 40th-anniversary release of “Last Christmas” along with WHAM!: Last Christmas Unwrapped documentary, which will feature rare and exclusive archive footage, a once-in-a-lifetime reunion, and never-seen-before outtakes produced by the BBC.
