You Could Get Paid to Sing the Oscar Mayer “Bologna Song”
Sing it with me if you remember: “My bologna has a first name, it’s O-S-C-A-R…” The Oscar Mayer bologna song, which debuted as part of a 1974 ad campaign, is an essential part of 20th century pop culture. And now, as the the song celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Kraft Heinz company is willing to fork over some cash to get you to sing it.
If you upload a video of yourself singing the “Bologna Song” to the website SingToPay.com, you might be one of 1,000 lucky winners to receive free groceries (up to $50 for each person) from Instacart and Kraft Heinz products — which, of course, includes Oscar Mayer bologna.
The 1974 ad, featuring an adorable little boy fishing while singing, became a pop culture phenomenon and was recently aired during the recent CBS Thanksgiving broadcast of the Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions football game, stirring up feelings of nostalgia.
Of course, this wasn’t even Oscar Mayer’s first hit jingle. In 1962, the company held a contest to find a song to promote its hot dogs. The winning entry, written by Richard Trentlage, was the Oscar Mayer “Wiener Song,” which holds just as important a place in popular culture.
Kraft Heinz brand manager Shelby Max noted that the company hopes that re-airing the bologna song ad on Thanksgiving “re-ignites conversation and love for the jingle for those who remember and those who are new to the song … Our goal is to pay homage to an iconic piece of American culture and empower fans to join us in singing loud and proud.”
The sweepstakes ends on December 15, 2024, so warm up your singing voice now and be sure to enter before then!
