Tom Selleck is getting ready to close another chapter in his career. At 79 years old, he is set to end his long-running show Blue Bloods this month after 14 seasons of playing Commissioner Frank Reagan. While he could retire after such a long and successful career, it doesn’t sound like he is ready to slow down at all. In fact, he’s already thinking about his next project. He admitted that he hopes to make a return to the Western genre and work with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan.

Selleck revealed, “A good Western’s always on my list. I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.” The longtime actor is certainly no stranger to the Western lifestyle, as he lives on a 63-acre ranch in Ventura, California. Plus, having previously starred in six Westerns, several with actor Sam Elliott, he stated he would love to work with Elliott again.

During a recent interview, Selleck was seemingly feeling nostalgic about his time working on Westerns. He admitted that one of his favorite roles of all time was playing Matthew Quigley in the Australian Western Quigley Down Under.

Selleck shared about the role, “I’m very proud of Quigley Down Under, which has passed the test of time and is still very, very popular. That was a big Western and he was clearly an iconic hero. I don’t mind saying I was a little anxious to play a part that maybe John Wayne could have done better.”

While Selleck said that he has no roles in the works right now, he admitted that people have been considering him. One thing he doesn’t want to do right away is another similar role to his Blue Bloods character. While he said he will miss the cast very dearly, he is definitely ready for a new challenge. The final episode of Blue Bloods airs on December 13, 2024.
