Actor Danny DeVito has been lucky enough to play many famous roles throughout the years, from taxi dispatcher Louie De Palma in Taxi to the unpredictable Frank Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, among many others. However, DeVito recently revealed his favorite role to date: grandfather.

In a video interview with AARP, the 80-year-old shared that both of his daughters, Lucy and Grace, had each welcomed a baby in the past two years. DeVito shares three children — his daughters plus a son, Jacob — with wife Rhea Perlman. Although DeVito and Perlman separated in 2017, they never divorced and remain close friends; the two have been spending a lot of family time together with the grandchildren.

In a heartwarming video, DeVito spoke about his life as a grandfather. “In two years, my daughters have had a baby each,” he shared. “And since these babies have been born, I’m just incorrigible. You’ve gotta tamper me down in the joy department. I’m just like, you know, busting.”

“I’m so lucky,” he continued. “Blessings showered down on me. And I wish it for everybody.” As far as parental advice he gave to his daughters? “Don’t miss a thing,” he said. “Don’t look away. Because when you look back, that kid’s gonna be hula hooping.”

Many fans commented on the video, noting how sweet it was that he was so excited to be a grandpa — some even wished he were their grandpa! Others said that it was ironic that he made his career playing grumpy men when it seemed that he was actually quite the opposite in real life.
