Little House on the Prairie is getting another chance to tug at your heartstrings: Netflix has confirmed that a new TV adaptation of the beloved series is in the works, based on the bestselling book by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the wildly popular 1970s series created by the late Michael Landon.

Rebecca Sonnenshine will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the new series. Trip Friendly, the son of Ed Friendly, who worked on the original series, will also be a producer on the reboot.

The official logline for the new series reads: “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semiautobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”

Little House on the Prairie has captured the hearts and imaginations of so many fans around the world, and we’re excited to share its enduring themes of hope and optimism with a fresh take on this iconic story,” said Jinny Howe, vice president of drama series for Netflix. “Rebecca’s vision threads the needle with an emotional depth that will delight both new and existing fans of this beloved classic.”

Sonnenshine shared that she fell in love with the books when she was a child and is grateful to be a part of a new reimagining of the series. The series has recently seen a resurgence of viewers on streaming services. The new version is expected to follow Charles, his wife Caroline, and their young daughters Laura and Mary as they leave Wisconsin to settle in Kansas, based on the first Little House book.

It is currently unclear who will star in the new series or when it will be available to watch on Netflix. Stay tuned for more information on the revival!
