Actor Judge Reinhold decided to share his own “In Memoriam” tribute online for his friend and former costar John Ashton, who was one of many snubbed in the 2025 Oscars televised broadcast. In the post, Reinhold opened up about some of his favorite roles of Ashton’s, including Instinct and Some Kind of Wonderful. Alongside the message, he shared several photos of Ashton over the years, including his most recent role in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

He also encouraged fans to watch the film Once Upon a River, calling it one of Ashton’s “finest performances.” Once Upon a River was released in 2020, based on the 2011 novel by Bonnie Jo Campbell. It follows the story of Margo Crane and her journey on the mythical Stark River in 1970s Michigan.

It was one of the actor’s final roles before he passed away on Sept. 26, 2024, at the age of 76. Luckily the two friends were able to reunite just before Ashton’s passing, as they both appeared in the highly anticipated film Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, 40 years after the original Beverly Hills Cop film was released. Ashton played Detective Sergeant John Taggart in the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies. His character became a police chief in the most recent film.
