Billy Joel Shares Health Update After Canceling Upcoming Tour Dates

Billy Joel has shocked fans by canceling eight upcoming stadium concerts due to health concerns. Joel did not share what “medical condition” he is experiencing, but he stressed that his “health must come first,” according to Variety.
The announcement said that Joel “is expected to make a full recovery” after a recent surgery and will be undergoing doctor-supervised physical therapy. Joel said in a statement, “While I regret postponing any shows, my health must come first. I look forward to getting back onstage and sharing the joy of live music with our amazing fans. Thank you for your understanding.”

After the upcoming shows in the United States, Canada and the U.K. were officially canceled, fans on Reddit speculated about his well-being. One user wrote on Billy Joel’s subreddit, “Well, his emergency surgery a few months back, and the fall probably have something to do with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was something to do with his hip or knee causing the fall and now his medical team want him to do physiotherapy and work on balance and such before continuing to tour.”
Another fan wrote, “Wow. He’s not a young man anymore, and as much as we’d like him to be immortal, it looks like time is taking its toll on his body. I know a lot of relatively healthy 75-year-olds who are in great shape, but they’d still be reluctant to take on a touring schedule. I hope he’s able to do what is best for him and his family, even if it means we don’t get the chance to enjoy him live in concert. This makes me sad.”
Joel has rescheduled several of the shows for later in 2025 and 2026. Here is an updated list of his tour dates from Consequence:
