Jethro Tull Finally Has a No. 1 Hit Album After 50 Years, What Does Singer Ian Anderson Say About it?

Jethro Tull has been around since the 1960s, but it has taken until 2025 for them to finally hit the top spot on a chart. Their newest album, Curious Ruminant, debuted at No. 1 on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart. This is an exciting accomplishment for the group, who has frequently hit No. 2 or lower over the years, including 17 top 10 releases on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart with seven of those reaching No. 2.
The new album also hit three other U.K. rankings including No. 3 on the Official Albums Sales chart, No. 8 on the Official Album Downloads roster, and No. 9 on the Official Vinyl Albums list. Curious Ruminant is their 24th studio album, coming after new album releases in 2022 and 2023. While the band members and its sound has changed over the years, this album was meant to go back to their classic ’70s sound complete with a 17-minute song called “Drink From The Same Well.”

The album features current band members Ian Anderson, David Goodier, John O’Hara, Scott Hammond and newcomer guitarist Jack Clark. The album also has contributions from former keyboardist Andrew Giddings and drummer James Duncan, making it all around very nostalgic for longtime fans.
“It’s more of a personal set of lyrics but very much a band album,” Anderson told blogger Belgian Jasper. “Quite a lot of this album was made with the guys all in the room at the same time playing their instruments in real-time. It’s not about having gold albums or platinum albums to hang on the wall, that’s really not the name of the game for me at all.”
The album is out now and available digitally as well as on a limited deluxe ultra clear 180g 2LP + 2CD + Blu-ray artbook and limited deluxe 2CD+Blu-ray artbook. It will also be available as a special edition CD digipak, gatefold 180g LP + LP-booklet. Have you given the new album a listen yet? Get a preview below!
