Svengoolie Reveals How He Picks His Monthly Horror Movies
Each month, Svengoolie fans wait eagerly to find out which horror movies he will air on his MeTV series, Svengoolie Classic Horror and Sci-Fi Movie. But have you ever wondered exactly how Svengoolie makes his picks? During the recent C2E2 convention in Chicago, Svengoolie answered fan questions and spilled some of his spookiest secrets, including how he decides which movies to share every Saturday night.
Svengoolie admitted that he isn’t always able to pick the movies he’d like to due to licensing; different studios have control of different films and MeTV is only able to play certain ones. He explained during the event as told to MeTV, “The Deadly Mantis is under the Universal umbrella. They’ve got a lot of stuff. Other distributors have kind of inherited them from those other companies. That’s how we get a lot of that stuff. You have maybe five different distributors that make their movies available to us. What happens is, they send us a list of what they have, we ask for movies, and we can’t always get them.”

Regarding why he doesn’t show certain popular films, he said, “So, we have to fight for every movie we get. When people ask about some of the movies, like ‘How come you never show…?’ I have to explain it to them. I can’t take too much time to explain the entire way the business works to everybody. But I try to at least give them an idea of why we can’t always get the movies.”
Svengoolie added that sometimes the studio will ask to edit his show and it becomes too much of a hassle, so he chooses another film from his favorites.
