MTV Will Start Actually Playing Music Videos 24/7 Again — But There’s a Twist

If you’re part of the MTV generation, you’ve probably complained about how the channel no longer shows music videos. But beginning on Sept. 1, in the week leading up to the 2025 Video Music Awards airing on CBS on Sept. 7, MTV will go back to doing what it once did best: airing videos selected from throughout its 44 year history.
According to a press release, “In the run up to the 2025 VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS on CBS on Sept. 7, MTV will air an unprecedented week of 24/7 music videos across MTV2, MTV Live and MTV Classic, both classic and current, in a revival of the brand’s early DNA reimagined for today’s audiences. Past VMA winners and legendary MTV personalities will return to curate and spotlight their seven favorite music videos of all time, offering fans an intimate glimpse into the music videos that shaped them.”
Though no list of participating stars has been released yet, it’s a safe bet that many of the stars who jumpstarted their careers on the channel, like Carson Daly, will make a return. It’s also a safe bet that the video lineup will include the hundreds of iconic videos that are synonymous with the channel, which helped introduce the public to everyone from Madonna to Nirvana to Britney Spears.
But which classic video would you most like to see the channel play? Let us know in the poll below.
