Margot Robbie Takes Inspiration From a 1960s Barbie for the ‘Barbie’ Red Carpet
The Barbie movie will be here soon and its star Margot Robbie is certainly celebrating. Robbie has been inspired by famous Barbies over the years for her recent red carpet looks. For the world premiere in Los Angeles, California, she wore a black sequin dress, red lipstick, black peep-toe shoes, and diamond accessories, taking inspiration from the 1960s Barbie Solo in the Spotlight. Adding black opera gloves and holding a light pink scarf, she looks just like the vintage doll.
This wasn’t the first time she decided to dress up like a Barbie from the past. For a photo call in Mexico City, she replicated the look of Totally Hair Barbie including very ’90s long crimped hair, a colorful dress, and bright pink earrings. For other events, she has been seen stealing looks from the original 1959 Barbie, the 2015 Pink & Fabulous Barbie, and 1992’s Earring Magic Barbie. The 33-year-old truly emulates all of the glitz and glam Barbie is known for and it is no surprise that she was cast in the role.
Prior to the movie’s release on July 21st, the cast has been opening up about how much fun they had on and off the set together. Actor Simu Liu said that Robbie got really into the role and wanted to get closer to her castmates and hosted a sleepover with all of the actors playing Barbie in the film. He said, “Margot was so great. She had a sleepover with the Barbies before photography started, and the Kens were allowed to either visit briefly or to phone in and say hi. So we made sure to show our support but not be overbearing with our presence. And all the Barbies and Kens got in a group chat.”
However, there was one Ken that got left out, and for a very nostalgic reason, we might add. Michael Cera was not added to the group chat because he still has a flip phone. The 35-year-old admitted, “I don’t have an iPhone myself. … I have a flip phone. But I still think I wouldn’t belong on [the group chat] anyway, because [my character] Allan is sort of in his own little world. Greta’s gift for me when I arrived was a picture disc of NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, which felt like somehow a real guiding light in the backstory of this character.”
In addition, the movie’s main stars Robbie and Ryan Gosling said that all of the stars had to wear pink once a week or pay a fine. The fines that were collected were given to charity. How very Mean Girls of them but with a sweet twist! Check out the trailer for the film below ahead of its release in a little over a week. Are you going to see the movie?
