Marissa Jarratt, 7-Eleven executive vice president and chief marketing & sustainability officer said about the special day, “We’ve always thought that being born on July 11 had its perks… but we’re excited to extend the birthday celebration this year not only to those who share our birthday, but to all of the loyal fans of Slurpee. From festive décor to craveable snacks and of course, iconic Slurpee drinks — we have everything you need to celebrate the best day of the year.”

7-Eleven was founded in 1927 in Dallas, Texas as an ice house storefront. A Southland Ice Company employee named John Jefferson Green began selling ice and later eggs, milk, and bread with permission from Southland Ice. At first, it was named Tote’m Stores after a manager put a totem pole in front of a store and attracted the attention of many new customers. However, it was eventually renamed 7-Eleven to reflect the new hours from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm, seven days per week. Of course, the convenience store has been a big success and now has over 78,000 stores in 19 countries and territories with many of them being open 24 hours. There was one blip in the company’s history as they almost went bankrupt in 1931 because of the Great Depression but they managed to survive with the help of a banker named W. W. Overton Jr.

Slurpees have been around since 1965 while their popular Big Gulp beverages came about in 1976. They now have several 7-Select private-brand products including energy drinks, donuts, and prepared foods.
