Shannen Doherty Celebrates ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ Costar’s Birthday Amid Cancer Battle
A Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion happened over the weekend! Brian Austin Green, who played David Silver in the show, just turned 50 and celebrated with a few familiar faces. Shannen Doherty (Brenda Walsh) came to party amid her battle with stage four breast cancer. She shared a few photos on Instagram and sent her birthday wishes to Green. Their former co-star Ian Ziering (Steve Sanders) also joined in on the festivities.
The trio appeared on the popular teen drama in the ’90s and re-appeared on the reboot BH90210 in 2019. The latter was canceled after just one season. While Doherty left the original series after alleged on-set issues, she has remained friends with many of her former castmates including Green. He has been supporting her during her ongoing battle with cancer. She was first diagnosed in 2015 but went into remission in 2017. In 2020, she revealed the sad news that her cancer returned as stage four.
Doherty opened up in 2020, “I had moments of great anxiety where I thought, ‘I can’t really do this,’ and Brian was the one person of that group of people that knew, that I told pretty quickly.” It seems that even though they haven’t worked together in many years, the cast members are always there to support one another. Some of the cast, excluding Doherty, also reunited at a recent ’90s Con event where they opened up about what their characters might be doing in recent years.
Ziering said that Steve might be living in a Costa Rica forest as a life coach to the world’s most interesting man, while Jason Priestley said that his character Brandon Walsh could be unemployed and living in his car. Yikes! Even Tori Spelling said her character Donna Martin might be “swinging from a pole somewhere.” Not exactly the happy ending many fans would have hoped for.
Some of the cast is reuniting again at another ’90s Con in September in Tampa and this time Green is attending too! Get all the details and tickets here. You can watch Beverly Hills, 90210 on Hulu or Paramount+.
