Nostalgic Stars Working on ‘Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge’
If the new Barbie movie isn’t nostalgic enough for you, an ’80s boy band star was featured in the latest episode of Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge. New Kids on the Block star Jonathan Knight teamed up with Kristina Crestin of Farmhouse Fixer to renovate part of the fun Barbie Dreamhouse. HGTV purchased a large home that is being renovated to look just like the Barbie Dreamhouse that perhaps you had as a kid. Inspired by Barbie, eight teams of two will compete to see who can pull off a better renovation. Each week, a team is selected as the winner and eventually one team will be the “Dreamiest” and a donation to the charity Save the Children will be made in their name. In addition, a Barbie superfan will be chosen to get to spend a night in the completed Dreamhouse.
Since Knight and his group were big in the ’80s, Knight and Crestin had to redesign Barbie’s bedroom and bathroom, using the 1980s as their inspiration. They used Knight’s voice in the bed as a way to put someone to sleep with special lighting as well. The finished bedroom included a large canopy bed, glitter in the ceiling, and of course, plenty of pink. Knight wasn’t the only nostalgic person to show up to work. They worked against Alison Victoria from Windy City Rehab and Ty Pennington, host of the popular 2000s show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

In addition to an ’80s-themed bedroom and bathroom, the teams are working on a 1960s-style kitchen, a ’70s disco-themed room just for Ken, and more. Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge airs on HGTV on Sundays at 8 p.m. and streams on Max. Which room are you most excited to see?
