Three of Princess Diana’s Gorgeous Dresses Go Up For Auction
Some of the late Princess Diana‘s beautiful dresses are going up for auction and for a very good cause. Years ago, a woman named Ellen Petho bought several dresses that belonged to Princess Diana in an auction. She passed away in January and now her husband, Louis Petho, is offering three dresses up for auction at Julien’s auction house in Los Angeles. His late wife raised over $1 million for charities for children with special needs and now her husband plans to continue donating in her honor.
He plans to raise money for a scholarship fund for older students of art and design in honor of Ellen and Diana. He shared, “Ellen knew Diana was keen on children’s charities and thought that it would be Diana’s mission. We had some wonderful memories traveling around the States with the dresses. She had a glow when she saw those children that you have never seen. We saw a lot of sad things and a lot of happy ones. A big chunk of the auction is to set up a scholarship fund in her memory.”
According to the auction website, the dresses include a red silk Bruce Oldfield gown that Diana famously wore to the 1991 premiere of the film Hot Shots!, a black and jade Catherine Walker dress she wore to a gala dinner, and a black and ivory strapless velvet gown. The auction will take place in person in Beverly Hills, CA, and online on September 6, 7, and 8 in the auction titled Legends: Hollywood & Royalty.
The auction also includes other clothing items, movie props, signed posters, scripts, and many more. The red dress is expected to sell for $200,000 – $400,000, the black and jade dress for $100,000 – $200,000, and the black and ivory gown for $60,000 – $80,000.
