County firefighter/paramedic John Gage in the medical drama Emergency! (NBC, 1972-79). In addition to his charming, crooked smile and floppy brunette mane, Mantooth’s appeal came from his convincing portrayal of a brave yet sensitive hero. His onscreen partner was Roy DeSoto, played by an also crushworthy Kevin Tighe.
