Barry Williams Following the Footsteps of TV Mom Florence Henderson on ‘DWTS’
Another Brady Bunch star is currently competing on Dancing with the Stars and he hopes to make his TV family proud. Barry Williams is competing this season with partner Peta Murgatroyd. His Brady Bunch mom Florence Henderson competed back in 2010, just six years before she passed away. In 2016, his TV sister Maureen McCormick also competed.
During his debut performance, Williams paid tribute to his co-stars and the show that made him a star. He performed a foxtrot to “It’s a Sunshine Day” by The Brady Bunch. The 69-year-old who played Greg Brady in the beloved series shared, “‘The Brady Bunch’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ have alumni. Florence Henderson was here in 2010, Maureen McCormick in 2016. Each went several weeks. So, there is a kind of a family atmosphere, the difference being that no Brady has taken it all the way to the end. So I’m hopeful that I’m going to be that person.”
He added, “I try and channel Florence Henderson, who encouraged me to pursue an invitation for ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ Being familiar with my theatrical background, she felt that I could do very well. And at that time, she had just been eliminated and asked if I would carry the torch.”
Williams also said that fans can expect to see some of his former co-stars in the audience if he continues on in the competition. He said that all surviving cast members have been invited and that Christopher Knight is expected to watch next week. Williams added that McCormick and Susan Olsen have also reached out about supporting Williams during the show and that he is grateful for all of their support.
Watch Williams compete on Dancing with the Stars on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
