New ‘Garfield’ Movie Starring Chris Pratt and Samuel L. Jackson is Coming in 2024
The latest film based on Jim Davis’ beloved Garfield comics is coming soon. This time, actor Chris Pratt will voice the lasagna-loving cat with Samuel L. Jackson voicing Garfield’s father, a street cat named Vic. The trailer for the new film has just been released a shows the origin story of how Garfield and his human, Jon Arbuckle met.
In the trailer, Jon is seen looking lonely, eating a pizza by himself at a restaurant. Adorable kitten Garfield shows up at the window and Jon lets him inside. The two immediately click and Garfield ends up devouring the entire restaurant and being adopted by Jon, who also has a pup named Odie. The next clips show Garfield reuniting with “his father” and surviving a speeding train car, moose, and RV, before arriving home and giving Vic a taste of the sweet life, gobbling up everything in the fridge.
Reportedly, Odie and Garfield must join Vic in a dangerous heist, leaving their comfortable life behind. Of course, silly antics always arise when Garfield is involved. In addition to Pratt and Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, and Bowen Yang round out the cast. The film is set to premiere in theaters on May 24, 2024.
Originally, Jim Davis created the comic strip Jon in 1976, changing it to focus on Garfield in 1978. As of 2013, it held the Guinness World Record for being the world’s most widely syndicated comic strip. Due to the comic strip’s popularity, it became a beloved animated series called Garfield and Friends in 1988. Twenty years ago, a 2004 film came out with Bill Murray voicing the lazy cat. In addition to the new film, a new Garfield animated series is currently in the works for Nickelodeon.
