Mad Magazine is an American satire magazine that was first published way back in 1952. Known for its influential humor and not being afraid to dive into politics and pop culture, it has become one of the most popular magazines of all time.

While it has scaled down its issues quite a bit in the last decade, fans can still subscribe and purchase past issues. Now, a documentary about the magazine’s rise to fame is in the works with Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, DC, and R.J. Cutler’s production hub.

Oscar-and Emmy-winning director Jessica Yu is set to direct the currently untitled documentary. Variety discovered that the documentary will discuss the origins of the magazine and how it grew with humor that all Americans weren’t always happy with. The magazine often encouraged readers to question authority and became a must for those with a love of satire. Mad Magazine has authorized the documentary to receive exclusive access to its entire archive.

The documentary may also pay tribute to Al Jaffee, the cartoonist who worked for the magazine for many years. He passed away this year at the age of 102. Jaffee created the fold-in feature that is so beloved in the magazine, which plays into its humor by giving readers a hidden image when the cartoon is folded into thirds.

The documentary is reportedly currently in production, so we will let you know when new details arise, including when and where it will be streaming.
