Tim Allen Admits There Are Talks to Release ‘Toy Story 5’
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tim Allen teased that a new Toy Story film could be in the works. Allen has voiced the character Buzz Lightyear in the first four Toy Story films. In a recent spin-off film called Lightyear, Chris Evans voiced the titular character. As fans questioned if Allen was being replaced by Disney, perhaps because of his political views, Allen has confirmed that he is in talks to star in a potential fifth film.
The head of Disney, Bob Iger, previously announced that Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia franchises would all be getting new sequels. Allen added, “Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on. He actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles, [but] they’re not saying anything about it. What it is for people like me, it’s just like… you wonder if four was too many, is five going to be too much?”
He continued, “The writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and he said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it,’ so it could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it.” The first Toy Story film was released back in 1995, with its sequel debuting in 1999, the third in 2010, and finally the fourth in 2019. Toy Story remains one of the most beloved Disney and Pixar projects and there is even a full Toy Story-themed land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Allen previously spoke about how the movies changed his life and gave him a great friend. Allen and Tom Hanks, who voices the character Woody, became best friends. Allen said about their friendship, “He and I differ on so many things. I adore that man’s heart and mind. We’ve been going to lunch since ‘Toy Story 1,’ two times a year, and we’re like two older women ’cause we will sit almost too close to each other at a booth. It’s just weird.”
He added, “And I don’t think I’ve ever trusted a human being as much as Tom to even listen to me and vice versa. We have very different opinions on so many things, but he’s gotten me to accept — he’s really a wonderful and engaging person. He’s the first guy to listen to me and doesn’t judge.” Now tell us, are you hoping for Toy Story 5?
