Tony Bennett’s Daughter Speaks About His Lasting Legacy
Tony Bennett was an icon. The legendary singer passed away this year at the age of 96 after working in show business for over seven decades. Now, his daughter Antonia Bennett is sharing what it was like to have such a famous father and how she is making sure his legacy lives on.
She spoke about her childhood, “There was a lot of great music around the house. When I was really young, [jazz pianist] Bill Evans was at our house a lot because my dad was working on a record with him. They would go out by the pool and work for several hours a day.” Growing up in a musical family, Antonia was inspired to pursue her own singing career when she got older and often sang with her famous father.
She said that she learned from her dad, “You’re only as good as your next show. You have to keep trying to perfect what you do, and keep working at it. Just because you had one good show, that doesn’t mean anything. It’s about consistency and being able to continue to do that over and over again.”
Antonia and Tony performed together for almost 30 years and she said he “constantly wowed” her with his talent and his energy to do so many shows. As of now, Antonia is taking a break from performing to spend time with her family, including her young daughter, but plans to get back out there soon.
Antonia will go on to perform her father’s music to help continue his legacy. She hopes to inspire her daughter Maya just like her dad did for her and make sure that she succeeds at whatever she wants to do, whether it is music or something else. Have you ever heard Antonia sing? She has a beautiful voice too!
