Selena Gomez to Portray Linda Ronstadt in New Biopic

A new biopic is on its way! This time, a new film will share the life story of music legend Linda Ronstadt and singer/actor Selena Gomez has been confirmed to play Ronstadt. It is currently in pre-production and producers include Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach who also worked on the documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.
Today on Instagram, Gomez teased her upcoming role by sharing a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir “Simple Dreams,” making it clear she was beginning to do research. Gomez is best known for her roles in Wizards of Waverly Place and more recently Only Murders in the Building. She also built a successful pop singing career with songs such as “Love You Like a Love Song.” As of now, no other casting decisions or announcements are being made about the upcoming biopic.

Ronstadt is one of those rare artists who has transcended many different music genres including Latin, country, and rock. She has won 11 Grammys and has been honored with several Lifetime Achievement Awards. Now at 77 years old, Ronstadt is retired as she is no longer able to sing due to progressive supranuclear palsy. At first, it was thought that she had Parkinson’s disease. Her final performance was in 2009 and 2021 she sold her catalog to Irving Azoff‘s Iconic Artists Group.

In addition to the upcoming biopic and the 2019 documentary, she has also shared the 2020 film Linda and the Mockingbirds which showed her visit to Mexico with Jackson Browne as they worked with students of Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy. Ronstadt and Gomez are both of Mexican descent.

It seems Ronstadt is joining the ranks of artists such as Elvis Presley and Elton John, whose biopics introduce their music to a new generation of fans. Stay tuned for new details on this film!
